Prep party! For as long as I can remember, we have gathered at my Moms the night before the celebration to help make all the goodies. We connect as we peel the potatoes and prep the squash & honey onions (my fav!) We laugh as we mix and bake the pies & breads. “Many hands make light work” and within 2 hours, we’ve done some catching up, a little bickering and everything is prepped for the next day.
Move your ass-ets :)): Don’t forget to do something nice for you, especially during a busy time. A turkey trot, or a morning strength or stretch workout always gives me good energy & capacity to remain peaceful for any tough family dynamics.
Add a chair (or 2!):My Mom always invites people to our table that don’t have a place to go during the holidays or they are having a tough time. We try to give them a soft place to land with a smile and a hug as we share our traditional recipes and crazy conversations.
I AM grateful for…:Speaking of crazy conversations, while we are at the table, we go around the circle and each person shares what they are thankful for in that moment. When we started this, there was some uncomfortable laughter and mumbling, but over the years it has become a powerful exercise of gratitude and reflection that always leads to a few tears and smiles.
Serving & giving to others: Of course, we also do outreach in our community, with our clients and favorite organizations that support, shelter and feed people who need help in every season. Did you know Tuesday, Nov. 28th is the Global Day of Giving? Let's keep shining our light!
Have a beautiful Thanksgiving. I’d love to hear your favorite traditions and how you bring a little calm to this abundant and crazy season!
Blessings, J’aime xo
